Google Docs now natively opens and edits .md files

As of October 5, 2026, Google Docs supports native editing of .md and .markdown files without conversion. Users can open files directly from Google Drive, collaborate and comment on them, and Drive previews now render formatted tables and links. The feature is available to all Workspace and personal Google accounts.
