Shaoxin Laboratory builds pilot line for 2D semiconductor chips by end of 2027
A lab set up by the Shaoxing municipal government and Fudan University is building a pilot production line for chips made from two-dimensional semiconductors based on molybdenum disulfide. The first-phase cleanroom is finished, with a fairly complete pilot line expected by the end of 2027; the lab is also developing EDA tools and a PDK.
- Pilot line for 2D chips based on molybdenum disulfide due by end of 2027
- Memory cells use 2D material while control circuits stay on mature silicon
- In April 2025 the Fudan team reported PoX flash with 400-picosecond writes
- Cost not yet estimated because full-wafer manufacturing is unverified
