Unpublished Schrödinger manuscript on hidden variables found
Physicist Flavio Del Santo of the University of Geneva retrieved an unpublished, undated manuscript by Erwin Schrödinger titled 'Collapse of Determinism' from the Austrian Central Library for Physics in Vienna. In three pages, Schrödinger proposes a hidden-variable model assigning each photon a value between zero and one that reproduces Malus' law.
- The manuscript was held at the Austrian Central Library for Physics in Vienna
- Schrödinger proposed hidden-variable values from 0 to 1 instead of Whittaker's two
- The model reproduces Malus' law and restores the distribution after measurement
- It likely went unpublished because of a paper by Austrian physicist Heinrich Pelzer
