Canonical engineer publishes AI launcher prototype for Ubuntu
Canonical engineer Didier Roche-Tolomelli has published a prototype Ubuntu launcher with on-device AI in the Snap Store. It is a semi-interactive design mockup rather than a working tool, demoing file search, Snap Store app suggestions and calendar itineraries built from clipboard history.
- Prototype ships as the warty-prototype 1 snap and launches from the command line
- Demos rely on a theoretical on-device AI model, not the cloud
- Canonical released the Myna AI dictation tool in tech preview this month
- Company says it will only add AI for practical use cases
