GM virtually tested 300,000 LMR battery configurations in under a month
GM used computer modeling to test more than 300,000 lithium manganese-rich battery pack configurations in under a month, a workload of over 300 million CPU hours that would take a typical computer about 34,000 years. The automaker aims to start commercial production of LMR cells in the U.S. by 2028 at the Ultium Cells plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
- Over 300,000 LMR battery configurations simulated, 300 million CPU hours
- LMR offers 33% more energy density than LFP and over 400 miles of range
- Commercial LMR cell production in the U.S. targeted for 2028
- Fourth-gen EV platform cuts wiring by 30% and motor parts by 40%
