EA outlines franchise plans: Fight Night returns, Mass Effect ends

After laying off about 400 people and shutting down BioWare, Electronic Arts outlined three strategic priorities and its franchise lineup. EA will continue Battlefield, Apex, Marvel's Iron Man and Star Wars Jedi, and has Project Gridiron and a new Fight Night in pre-production. Mass Effect development is discontinued and the Edmonton office is closing.

• EA cut about 400 jobs, including 50 at BioWare
• BioWare and its Edmonton office are closing; Mass Effect is cancelled
• A new Fight Night is in pre-production; the last entry shipped in 2011
• Project Gridiron is a social-first open world for EA's football portfolio
