Endurance Energy briefly hits net-positive output from undersea geothermal system
Seattle startup Endurance Energy said its 100-kilowatt Adélie marine geothermal prototype generated more electricity than it consumed during a test 300 miles off the Oregon coast. The net-positive run lasted 8.7 seconds with a peak net output of 16.5 kilowatts; the company has raised $63 million and aims to deliver first power from a commercial project in Tonga in 2027.
- The 100-kW Adélie prototype reached 16.5 kW of net output for 8.7 seconds
- Testing took place at a natural vent with ~538 °F water about 5,000 feet deep
