GM lays out its future: AI, eyes-off driving and one central computer
General Motors outlined its strategy: a centralized electrical architecture with a single computer, AI-accelerated vehicle development and an OnStar reboot as an AI assistant. The 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ will be the first model with the new platform and eyes-off autonomous driving.
- AI will halve vehicle development from 4–5 years; aero testing drops from 60 hours to 60 seconds
- One central computer replaces dozens of ECUs: 30% less wiring and 40x more power
- The OnStar AI assistant debuts in the 2027 Lyriq; the unified app arrives next year
- Fourth-gen EVs on LMR batteries are expected around 2030
