TerraPower installs digital twin simulator for Natrium reactor in Wyoming
A full-scale digital twin simulator built by Curtiss-Wright has been installed at TerraPower's Kemmerer site in Wyoming to train operators for the Natrium reactor ahead of its 2030 startup. The 3KEYMASTER-based system models plant physics in real time, letting crews rehearse emergencies and test control software years before fuel loading.
- The simulator mirrors the 345-MW plant, which can peak at 500 MW using stored heat
- 3KEYMASTER models fluid flow, temperatures and core behavior in real time
- Natrium uses liquid sodium at near-atmospheric pressure, avoiding thick containment domes
- Molten salt storage boosts output to 500 MW for over five hours without changing core power
