Claude API adds OpenTelemetry trace export to customer backends

Since October 14, 2026, the Claude API can send one OpenTelemetry trace per request or Managed Agents session to a customer-run observability backend. The public beta requires an org admin to add a destination in the Claude Console, with metadata-only or full-content modes. Delivery is at-least-once and best effort, up to 10 destinations per organization.

• Two independent pipelines: API server spans and client spans from the anthropic SDK
• Metadata only is the default; Full content adds prompts and responses
• Up to 10 destinations per org, HTTPS on port 443, no /v1/traces suffix
• Each span holds up to 0.75 MB of content before truncation
