Perplexity Computer adds local-first mode for AI agents on Mac
Perplexity introduced a local-first mode for Computer where the model and agent run entirely on a Mac, online or offline, sending data to the cloud only with user approval. It uses Qwen 3.6 or PPLX Pro and is available to Pro, Max, and Enterprise subscribers; Apple silicon Macs with at least 36GB of memory are recommended.
- Local mode complements Hybrid Compute, launched last month
- Local models are Qwen 3.6 and PPLX Pro, a post-trained Qwen version
- Data stays on the Mac; cloud models run only with permission
- Apple silicon Macs with at least 36GB of memory recommended
