JOME 3D prints marine propeller from a scan, cutting lead time by 60%
JOME Engineering produced a replacement marine propeller in Dubai using wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM), reconstructing it from a 3D scan of the original because no CAD files or tooling existed. The 26 kg SS316L propeller was printed on Caracol's Vipra AM system, cutting lead time by about 60% and cost by roughly 40% versus casting.
- The 26 kg SS316L propeller was printed on Caracol's robotic WAAM platform Vipra AM
- The project took about 120 hours, with 20 hours of deposition
- Machining took around 100 hours and was the most demanding step
- Lead time fell about 60% and cost about 40% by skipping dies and foundry queues
