Spotify adds QR code verification to Family plan, threatens 1-year ban
Spotify now requires Premium Family members to verify they live with the plan manager by scanning a QR code in person via the mobile app. The code refreshes every few seconds to block screenshots, users get seven days to complete the check, and those who fail are moved to the free tier and barred from Family or Duo plans for 12 months.
- QR code refreshes every few seconds, so screenshots won't work
- Members get a seven-day window to complete the scan
- Failure means a 12-month ban on Family and Duo plans
- Both devices need the latest version of the Spotify app
