Gartner: AI infrastructure needs $8.5 trillion in revenue to pay off

Gartner estimates that covering announced AI infrastructure capex, financing costs and a 12% return on invested capital requires $8.5 trillion in cumulative revenue through 2030, versus at most $3.6 trillion in attributable AI revenue. More than $3.5 trillion of spending could face impairment by 2030, and over 80% of neocloud providers are expected to cease independent operations.
