Intel readies XMX-accelerated XeSS for Valve's Proton
Intel is preparing to bring XMX-accelerated XeSS support to Valve's Proton compatibility layer. Proton currently uses a slower, less efficient version of the upscaler, and XMX cores should deliver a substantial performance boost for Intel GPU gamers on Linux.
- Proton currently runs a slower XeSS version without XMX acceleration
- XeSS 3.0 can generate up to three frames between two rendered frames
- Each Xe3 core packs eight vector and eight matrix (XMX) engines
- Peak FP16 and INT8 throughput is double that of Xe2
