RTX 5090 mod swaps 16-pin power connector for four 8-pin plugs
Reddit user DallasGrave built a power kit for the GeForce RTX 5090 that bypasses the native 16-pin connector and feeds the card through four standard 8-pin PCIe plugs soldered to the PCB power rails. The design spreads a 600W load across 12 power pins instead of six, cutting current per pin from about 8.33A to 4.17A. The kit was tested at up to 800W on a shunt-modified card; pricing and release date are unannounced.
- Four 8-pin PCIe connectors provide 600W combined, 150W each
- Per-pin current drops from about 8.33A to 4.17A at 600W
- Kit tested at up to 800W on a shunt-modified RTX 5090
- Versions planned for nearly all RTX 5090 variants, including Founders Edition
