Modder gives RTX 5090 quad 8-pin power instead of 12V-2x6
A Reddit modder built a custom PCB that feeds the RTX 5090 through four traditional 8-pin PCIe connectors, nearly halving current per conductor to 4.1–4.4A at 600W and cutting temperatures by about 20°C. The board solders onto the card's existing power contacts and can run with or without the 16-pin connector.
- Current per wire nearly halved: 4.1–4.4A at 600W
- Temperatures about 20°C lower, ~45°C at 800W
- Tested on a shunt-modded RTX 5090 up to 800W
- No pricing yet; mail-in install and Las Vegas store planned for December
