AWS to cut European Sovereign Cloud off from global backbone for several hours
On October 24 AWS will disconnect its European Sovereign Cloud from the AWS Global Network backbone and a dedicated data-transfer channel for several hours, falling back to the public internet via European ISPs. The Brandenburg region will be run by an all-EU team on local hardware and software with an in-EU copy of the source code.
- The test runs October 24; the region is expected to keep running
- Both the Global Network backbone and a dedicated transfer channel are switched off
- Traffic falls back to the public internet over European ISP links
- AWS claims no certification but will hand results to customers for compliance
