OpenAI in early talks to acquire Trail of Bits

OpenAI is in early talks to buy Trail of Bits, a firm that finds and fixes security flaws in open-source software. The deal size is unknown and the talks could still fall apart. The companies have collaborated since June on the Patch the Planet project within OpenAI's Daybreak cyber programme.

• Trail of Bits was founded in 2012 and has more than 40 employees
• Since June the firms have run Patch the Planet to find open-source bugs
• In September OpenAI put $1bn behind cyber defence under Daybreak
• The size of a possible deal is not known
