Windows 11 speeds up app launches by skipping an extra process
Microsoft added "accelerated app launches" to Windows 11: reopening Edge now routes the request straight to the running instance instead of starting a temporary intermediary process. The change shipped in Release Preview builds 26200.9807 (25H2) and 26300.9807 (26H2) and currently applies only to Edge.
- The speedup only covers warm launches when Edge is already running in the background
- The change is part of KB5127936 for Release Preview Insiders, released October 16, 2026
- The accelerated-launch APIs are a Limited Access Feature requiring an unlock token
- Microsoft did not say how many milliseconds the new path saves
