Colossal Biosciences unveils GenoMorph AI platform for de-extinction
Colossal Biosciences announced GenoMorph, an AI platform that uses 3D morphology, comparative genomics and developmental biology to find genes worth editing when DNA data is scarce. For the dodo, it identified about 2,300 editing targets, while the company's Nicobar pigeon colony grew to 36 birds.
- GenoMorph combines developmental data from chickens, quail, ducks and pigeons with 3D skull measurements from over 70 bird species
- About 2,300 DNA editing targets were identified for dodo cranial and facial morphology
- Researchers have only one dodo genome versus 100 genomes for the woolly mammoth
- The Nicobar pigeon colony now has 36 birds, and egg and sperm precursor cells were created
