Hyosung unveils first 22.9 kV solid-state transformer for urban grids
South Korea's Hyosung Heavy Industries has developed what it calls the world's first 22.9-kilovolt solid-state transformer (SST) that connects directly to urban distribution networks. It replaces bulky electromagnetic components with power semiconductors and digital controls, making it lighter and better suited to AI data center loads. Hyosung has invested about $300 million in its Memphis plant.
