DNA Typewriter records 13.5 days of mouse embryo development
Researchers at UW Medicine and Dartmouth used DNA Typewriter technology to reconstruct the cell lineage of a developing mouse embryo back to its first two cells. The recording covered the first 13.5 days of development, with findings published October 8, 2026, in Science.
- Recording covered the first 13.5 days of mouse development out of 19–21 days of gestation
- Of 100 fertilized mouse eggs, 10 embryos were available for analysis
- DNA Typewriter writes ordered marks into DNA without cutting it
- Both founding cells produced nearly equal ratios of specialized cell types
