Raspberry Pi Desktop returns on Debian 13 after four-year gap

Raspberry Pi has released a new Raspberry Pi Desktop for PCs and Intel Macs based on Debian 13 "Trixie," skipping Debian 12. The release is x86-64 only, requires a fresh install, and includes the Wayland desktop and Raspberry Pi Connect remote-control service.

• The PC edition skipped Debian 12 and moved straight to Debian 13
• Only x86-64 PCs and Intel Macs are supported, not Apple Silicon
• Upgrading requires a fresh install instead of an in-place upgrade from the 32-bit release
• It ships the Wayland desktop and the Raspberry Pi Connect remote-control service
