MineReader RDX detector sniffs out explosives without the middleman
Australian deep-tech firm MRead and CSIRO tested the MineReader RDX mine detector in Brisbane, using magnetic resonance instead of electromagnetic induction. It detects 50 g of RDX explosive at depths up to 13 cm in wet, mineralized ground littered with metal debris, with TNT detection planned next.
- Detector targets the RDX signature via nitrogen atoms, not the metal casing
- Detects 50 g of RDX at depths of up to 13 cm
- Works in wet, highly mineralized ground littered with metal debris
- Goal is to add TNT detection to cover over 90% of land mines
