IBM and Rutgers demonstrate qubit reset on 100-qubit chip with 5,000 operations
Researchers from Rutgers, IBM and partner institutions used an IBM Quantum Heron processor with 156 qubits to run nearly 5,000 two-qubit operations and as many measurement-and-reset cycles on a chain of up to 100 qubits. Published in Nature Physics, the work shows a sharp transition between chaotic and controlled behavior near a 50-50 balance of the two processes.
- Experiment used a chain of up to 100 qubits on the 156-qubit IBM Quantum Heron
- Nearly 5,000 two-qubit operations and almost 5,000 measurement-reset cycles
- Chaos-to-order transition appears near a 50-50 balance of the processes
- Results matched theory and sharpened on systems larger than classical simulation
