Quantum chip uses phonons to link qubits across 300 mm
Researchers at the University of Warwick proposed Quantum Phononic Links, using phonons in compressively strained germanium on silicon as a quantum bus between distant qubits. The prototype couples qubits from under a micrometer to 300 mm apart, a step toward million-qubit machines.
- Phonons in a cs-GoS layer carry quantum information between qubits
- Coupling spans distances from under 1 micrometer to 300 mm
- Approach is compatible with semiconductor tech and error correction
- The study was published June 15 in APL Quantum
