RAIBO2 becomes first quadruped robot to run a marathon on one battery charge
The four-legged robot RAIBO2 completed a 26.2-mile marathon in just over 4 hours 19 minutes on a single battery charge on a hilly course in South Korea. Developers boosted battery capacity by 33% and tuned the control system; the findings were published in Nature.
- RAIBO2 finished in 4 hours 19 minutes on a course with 10-degree climbs
- Battery capacity raised 33% to 2,016 Wh, range up to 67 km
- Cost of transport of 0.25 versus 0.37 for humans
- More than triple the range per charge of existing quadruped robots
