iPhone 18 to get cut-down A20 chip on TSMC 2nm process
A Weibo leak suggests the base iPhone 18, expected in spring 2027, will use a slimmed-down A20 chip built on TSMC's 2nm node. It reportedly halves the cache, drops to a 5-core GPU and keeps standard package-on-package memory, while retaining the same 16-core Neural Engine as the A20 Pro.
- A20 die estimated at 70–80 mm² vs 98.8 mm² for the A20 Pro
- L2 cache halved: 8 MB for super cores, 4 MB for efficiency cores
- 5-core GPU vs 7 cores on Pro; standard package-on-package memory
- Neural Engine unchanged: dual 16-core blocks with 4 MB cache
