Vinix isn't Linux, but it runs Docker, QEMU and games on M1
Vinix, a monolithic non-Linux kernel written in V, now runs Alpine's Docker engine, QEMU 9.1.2, Minecraft Java Edition, DOOM and a DOOM 3 demo. It targets Apple Silicon (M1 only for now), uses ~50 MB of RAM after boot and installs Alpine aarch64 packages via pkg.
- Docker support relies on custom namespaces, cgroups, overlayfs and seccomp
- QEMU 9.1.2 can boot a second Vinix inside a window of the first
- Minecraft runs in interpreter mode on one CPU core; DOOM 3 hits about 13 FPS
- The OS uses ~50 MB of RAM after boot and ~1 GB of disk once installed
