AWS adds metadata pre-filtering to S3 Vectors

On September 30, 2026, AWS shipped metadata pre-filtering for S3 Vectors: filters are now evaluated before the similarity search instead of during it. AWS says ENHANCED mode returns up to 5x more matching vectors with selective filters, adds a $startsWith operator and a 100-condition limit per query, at no extra cost.
