WhatsApp banned 6.2 million Indian accounts in August

WhatsApp banned 6,202,400 India-linked accounts between August 1 and 31, 2026, with 27% banned proactively before any user complaints. Of 15,106 ban appeals, only 129 (0.9%) led to account restoration, and the company complied with all 148 Grievance Appellate Committee orders.
