NHTSA's impaired-driving tech rule due by November 2027

The Halt Drunk Driving Act, part of the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, directs NHTSA to require advanced impaired-driving prevention tech in all new cars: passive monitoring that can block vehicle operation. The agency missed its 2024 deadline, with final rules now due by November 2027. The law contains no remote "kill switch" for police.
