OpenAI launches Sign in with ChatGPT: OAuth 2.0 and subscription-funded requests
OpenAI rolled out Sign in with ChatGPT, an OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect login for third-party apps. Since DevDay on September 29, 2026, Plus and Pro users can let participating apps run AI requests against their subscription with weekly per-app limits instead of an API key.
- Apps receive only a stable account ID, name, email and avatar — no chats or API keys
- Access tokens last 1 hour; refresh tokens last 30 days and rotate on each refresh
- Users set a weekly per-app cap as a percentage of their total weekly usage
- 16 launch partners include Devin by Cognition, Notion and Vercel
