UIDAI plans Aadhaar reforms for Indians abroad, broadens domestic authentication
UIDAI plans to expand Aadhaar access for non-resident Indians and OCI cardholders, including international enrolment and authentication, with proof-of-concept projects underway. Domestically, it launched five initiatives such as face authentication for the public distribution system and the SWIK Portal 2.0.
- NRIs can already enrol for Aadhaar without the 182-day residency rule if they hold a valid Indian passport
- OCI cardholders still need at least 182 days of residency in India to qualify
