Open-source Bharat ABIS shows potential for national-scale deduplication

Researchers mostly from UIDAI, with IIIT Hyderabad and Michigan State University, built an open-source multimodal biometric search system called Bharat ABIS. Tested on 220 million Aadhaar records, it achieved a 0.3% false negative identification rate at a 0.5% false positive rate, matching or beating commercial ABIS platforms.

• Tested on 220 million records sampled from Aadhaar's 1.55 billion
• Single concatenated template of fingerprint, iris and face is 13.5KB
• FNIR of 0.3% at FPIR of 0.5% on adults' records
• On a 20 million gallery: FPIR 0.1% at FNIR 0.05%
