FCC Votes to Replace Blanket Robocall Opt-Out With Category-Specific Rule
The FCC voted to replace its 2024 "revoke-all" robocall rule with a category-specific revocation model, so a single STOP no longer halts every automated call and text from a company. Businesses may also designate one exclusive opt-out channel, and the new effective date is 30 days after Federal Register publication.
- Opting out of informational messages no longer cancels other company notices
- Telemarketing: one STOP still revokes all future marketing from that sender
- Companies may designate a single opt-out channel with clear disclosure
- Fraud-alert exemption expanded to numbers from "reliable sources"
