Rivian: LiDAR-equipped R2 with RAP1 chip goes to employees in 2026, customers in 2027

Rivian said at an investor conference in New York that the first R2s with LiDAR and its in-house RAP1 autonomy chip (1,600 sparse INT8 TOPS) will go to employees by late 2026, with customer deliveries in 2027. LiDAR now costs "a few hundred dollars" per vehicle, down from thousands. Point-to-point driving arrives on current R1 Gen 2 vehicles by year-end.
