Microsoft pauses Office update KB5002907 over licensing and install issues
Microsoft has paused the optional Microsoft 365 update KB5002907 after it caused licensing and installation problems on some PCs running Office 2016 or Office 2019. Some systems showed Office as unlicensed, while a smaller number of users had Office removed entirely.
- KB5002907 was optional and had to be installed manually via Windows Update
- It targeted Microsoft 365 Apps installations more than 90 days behind
- Some users saw Office become unlicensed, others lost the installation
- Microsoft advises reactivating the product or reinstalling the purchased version
