Galileo achieves first encrypted, spoof-proof position fix
Europe's Galileo GNSS has demonstrated the first cryptographically secured position fix under spoofing conditions. At the Jammertest event in Norway, ESA held a stable lock on five Galileo satellites using its Signal Authentication System (SAS).
- SAS encrypts signal spreading codes with a regularly changing secret key
- Receivers pre-download the codes and correlate them with the recorded E6-C signal
- The decryption key is sent on a separate signal after each message block
- The test took place in Andøya, Norway, at the annual Jammertest event
