Moldova proposes national facial image registry for police searches

Moldova's Interior Ministry has proposed a national Facial Image Registry (RIF) for biometric identification of suspects, missing people and human remains. The system would support 1:1 and 1:N searches, with cross-border data exchange with EU authorities under Prüm II pending separate legislation.

• RIF would keep separate collections of identified and unidentified faces with unique reference numbers
• 1:N searches return candidate lists; a match must be confirmed by qualified personnel
• Access would be role-limited and all operations logged and audited
• EU data exchange would start only after Moldova passes Prüm II legislation
