Scientists search for microscopic black holes at the LHC
Researchers from UC Santa Barbara analyzed CMS detector data from 2016–2018 to hunt for quantum black holes at the Large Hadron Collider. No evidence was found, narrowing theories that predict extra dimensions; the search constrains production up to about 12 TeV.
- CMS data from 2016–2018 showed no signs of quantum black holes
- Search constrains production at energies up to about 12 TeV
- First use of phase-space distance between events combined with SVM
- Phase-space distance outperformed the sphericity variable
