iPhone 18 Pro benchmark boosted by giving it a cold drink

Developer Matt Birchler benchmarked the iPhone 18 Pro in his Quick Subtitles app: without cooling the phone throttled, but with a cold can of sparkling water on its back it sustained around 400 words per second. The 18 Pro's vapor chamber is three times larger than the 17 Pro's, yet still can't fully handle sustained load.

• iPhone 18 Pro hit 447.9 words/s on the first run vs 320.9 by the end without cooling
• With a cold La Croix can, throughput held at 400.4 words/s by run 20
• Thermal state was serious for half the runs without cooling, never above fair with the can
• The 18 Pro's vapor chamber has 3x the surface area of the iPhone 17 Pro's
