IonQ Shows Laptop Chip Handles Real-Time Quantum Error Correction
IonQ demonstrated that real-time quantum error correction, long thought to need specialized FPGAs or GPU clusters, can run on a single commodity laptop CPU. The decoder was validated against 408 logical qubits and over 31.5 million quantum operations on an Apple M4 Max chip.
- Error correction ran on a single consumer Apple M4 Max CPU
- Decoder validated against 408 logical qubits
- More than 31.5 million quantum operations processed
- Opens a lower-cost path to fault-tolerant quantum computing
