EU AI Act Deepfake Labeling Rules Take Effect

Article 50 of the EU AI Act took effect on August 2, 2026, making clear labeling and machine-readable marking mandatory for deepfakes and AI-generated text on matters of public interest. Content placed on the market before that date has a grace period until December 2026. The European Commission published a voluntary Code of Practice and a set of EU icons for labeling.
