How Pixar moved its entire pipeline to Linux by 2003
Pixar, whose early animation pipeline ran on Silicon Graphics Unix workstations, avoided a move to Windows NT and instead ported millions of lines of in-house code to Linux. The port was done by 2001, and by 2003 a new render farm on Xenon processors moved the studio to Linux and x86.
