SoftBank tests laser tracking for blimp-based base stations

SoftBank, together with Japan's National Institute of Polar Research and Hitotsubashi University, conducted ground-based tracking and laser ranging tests on high-altitude platform stations (HAPS). Engineers continuously received reflected signals from the blimp-like aircraft, demonstrating optical wireless communications. SoftBank targets commercial HAPS operations as early as next year.
