Avoiding Contrails Could Delay Aviation-Related Warming by 10 Years

A Klima Consulting report for T&E finds that preventing contrail formation could delay aviation's contribution to global warming by ten years. Halving contrail warming from 2030 would avoid about 0.025°C by 2050 and 0.049°C by 2070.

• In 2019, 3% of flights caused 80% of contrail warming
• Halving contrail warming avoids 67–225 MtCO2e per year
• That equals 7–23% of 2025 aviation CO2 emissions
