MIT's AI-powered barcode detects 'zombie cells' in aging tissue
MIT researchers have developed a noninvasive method to detect biomarkers of cellular senescence using Raman microscopy and AI. The approach can identify 'zombie cells' linked to cancer, tissue degeneration and inflammatory diseases without harming the cells.
- Method relies on Raman microscopy and does not damage cells
- Senescent cells stop dividing but do not die
- They are linked to cancer, tissue degeneration and inflammation
- The technology could improve diagnosis and treatment of age-related diseases
