Swiss court sentences 52-year-old Ukrainian ransomware dev to nearly 13 years in the cooler

The Zurich District Court sentenced a 52-year-old Ukrainian to 12 years and 9 months in prison for developing the LockerGoga, MegaCortex, and Nefilim ransomware. He also received a 10-year ban on entering Switzerland; the sentence can be appealed.

• Court found him the developer of LockerGoga, MegaCortex, and Nefilim, but not the organizer of attacks
• Attacks include 2020 hack of Stadler Rail with a $6 million ransom demand
• He has been in custody since October 2021 and denied knowledge of criminal use of the code
• Main suspect Vladimir Timoshchuk not arrested, $11 million bounty offered for him
